"Where in the Duck are We? 4x4 Club" was founded in 2005 on the snowy trails near Butte Meadows, CA. The founding members were "lost," had little in the way of a plan or destination, and found an out-of-place duck decoy in the snow drifts. The club was born with the idea that all you need is basic four wheel drive, a few days out of the year and some buddies to have fun and escape the daily grind. Members are a loose group of trail wheeling and back country enthusiasts. We meet once a year for The Trip; five days in your rig with three of those days off-road.

We Made It!
The Trip 2015 is officially over. We had four rigs with seven guys for the first two days on Henness Pass. Once we reached Verde, NV two members returned home while the other five guys pushed on in three rigs. After a late schedule destination change, we elected to skip Black Rock Desert this year. We headed down to Silver City to visit American Flats... only to find out Comstock Mining had obliterated all roadways leading into the site. With every legal mode of transportation blocked off, we headed out to Dayton, NV to visit Rockpoint Mill. We were skunked again when we found Rockpoint is literally 20' from a state highway running through downtown Dayton. We knew Thompson Smelter was a guaranteed location for quality camping, so we turned on the fog lights and braved a storm back across Lyon Co. After a night at Thompson Smelter, we packed up and headed out to Rockland Mill outside Pine Grove. The trail there was a blast with our first winch pull of the year. The trip's tally was three break downs day one with one new break down each day until home. Everyone made it though and will be back for more! The preliminary name for this years trip is "Broken Freedom, Sierra-Nevada, 2015" as we spent most of our time fixing broken rigs and reminding Nick Moranda of his upcoming marriage.
